The Hustle: A Love Affair Gone Sour

Ashlee Cox • October 15, 2025

You know how they say you can always spot a new entrepreneur?

Well, just the other day, I saw her: a woman in a classy chemise and denim combo, clutching an iced coffee like it was a life raft, staring at her laptop with the same frantic, wild-eyed energy you’d expect from a Wall Street trader on a Friday afternoon.

I immediately knew.

She wasn’t closing a major deal—the vibes were all wrong.

She was, most likely, just trying to keep up with the exhausting religion known as the hustle.

And it showed.

Today, let’s talk about that lie.

It’s the thing that makes you pore over your social media analytics, your engagement, your likes, so you can erroneously forecast just how broke you’re going to be this month, and what excuse you’ll give your family when they once again tell you to "get a real job."

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about that word: hustle.

It's the new black, the must-have accessory we’ve all been told to wear by too many motivational videos and celebrity interviews.

We've been sold this perfect, insidious lie that if we aren’t working 24/7, if our calendars aren't packed with back-to-back meetings, and our names aren’t on everyone’s tongues, we're simply not trying hard enough to be successful and wealthy.

As if the level of stress, frustration, and sheer busyness has anything to do with how easily and fat your bank account grows.

Thank God in the sky it does not!

But I have to ask... Do you truly think that a frantic pace is a sign of progress, or is it just a symptom of burnout?

The Fear of the Quiet Moment

This got me thinking: Why are we so afraid of rest?

The Lie of the 'Hustle' and How To Find Your Truth.

As an entrepreneur I know the lure of the ‘hustle’ mindset, and this post is all about it.

It’s a fierce cocktail of truth and permission for every soul burning the candle at both ends.

If your coffee is cold and your stress is high, you need this reality check.

This isn't just about work-life balance; it's about financial viability.

If you're too tired to be creative, you're too tired to be successful.
