The Dreaded Text: The Friday Morning

Ashlee Cox • December 20, 2025

You take a deep breath, close your eyes, and hit send on the text asking if his news involves a lover.

It’s bold, it’s desperate, and it’s the only thing that will stop you from shaking.

The reply comes instantly:

DRE: I can’t believe you’re asking me this! But... My news does involve me completely changing my life's plans. And now that you've asked, I have to know: Why do you care so much? We’re friends. See you at dinner. Don't be late.

You slump against the wall, confusion and even more tension flooding your body.

He's changing his life's plans?

And why did he call you out on caring?

He clearly suspects something.

You know this dinner will be a tense, high-stakes interrogation.

You still have time to prepare for the dinner you agreed to.

What do you do?

CHOOSE YOUR PATH:

A. THE ARMOR UP:

You decide the best defense is offense.

You put on your highest heels and your most confident, distracting outfit.

You walk into dinner ready to charm, deflect, and challenge every single word he says.

You are going to control the conversation.

B. THE EMOTIONAL HONESTY:

You decide you're done pretending.

You text him back: "I care because you're the most important person in my life. And I have to tell you something I should have told you years ago."

You decide to confess your love before dinner, via text, letting the chips fall where they may.
