❤️ Interactive Story: The Dreaded Text ❤️

Ashlee Cox • December 20, 2025

You put your phone down on the counter of your small apartment kitchen, your hands shaking slightly.

For two months, the longest two months of your life, your best friend, Dre, has been away on that big business trip in New York.

The distance has cracked your denial.

You know the truth now: you are irrevocably in love with him.

You’d spent weeks rehearsing the confession, preparing to finally risk it all when he got back this Friday.

Then the text came five minutes ago. Your stomach drops into a bottomless pit as you re-read his words:

DRE: I can’t wait to see you, Lan. I have the most exciting news, but I’m saving it to tell you face-to-face. 😉 See you Friday.

'Exciting news.'

That phrase feels like a ticking time bomb. It can't be good for you.

You realize you have no control over this weekend—only over the next 48 hours. The clock is ticking until Friday morning.

You frantically text your closest friend, Celia: He said he has "exciting news." I think he's dating someone.

Her response is instant: YOU CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE. YOU HAVE TO TELL HIM NOW.

You look at your phone, Dre's number already pulled up.

This is it.

You have one chance to save yourself from a lifetime of regret and unrequited love.

What do you do?

CHOOSE YOUR PATH:

A. THE BOLD CONFESSION (Risking It All)

You can't live with the silence anymore.

You need to tell him, even if he breaks your heart.

You quickly type out a message to Dre, asking to FaceTime immediately, explaining that you can't wait until Friday because you have something major to tell him, too.

Choose the Facetime Call

B. THE CALCULATED DISTRACTION (The Wait-and-See)

You decide Celia is panicking.

You can’t ambush him on a business trip; you need to hear his news first to protect yourself.

You type a calm, casual message back, suggesting a small, fun distraction to ease your nerves until Friday.
