“Arriving at the hospital an hour later, Belinda greeted the nurses at the reception desk on her way to her husband’s room.
Standing just outside of his room, Belinda took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and mentally prepared herself for what awaited her.
Pushing open the door, she stepped into the room, and spent a moment just looking at her husband, lying prone on the bed, tubes attached to his arms and a monitor beeping.
Sliding gracefully into the chair next to his bed, she watched with concern as Trevor’s breath laboured, each inhalation a struggle.
He looked thinner, frail and emaciated, so very different now, than the strong, burly and capable man he used to be.
Under her gaze, Trevor’s eyes slowly opened as his head gradually turned to her, so attuned to her presence.
He smiled.
